Quiz night is usually one person reading off their phone.

Everyone leans in to hear. Someone shouts over someone else. Nobody agrees who answered first, and the score lives on the back of an envelope until it doesn't. The questions might be great โ€” the evening still feels like admin.

Give it a screen and a buzzer.

The board goes on the TV where everyone can read it. The buzzers go on the phones already in everyone's pockets, and the server decides who was first. The score keeps itself. You get to be the host instead of the admin.

FROM NOTHING TO A GAME

Four steps, and the longest one is deciding on the categories.

  1. 01

    Build the board

Five categories, five clues each, two rounds and a tie-breaker. Start from the template, write your own, or describe a theme and let the generator draft a round for you.

  2. 02

    Put it on the TV

Open one link on the television or a laptop plugged into it. That screen shows the board, the clue and the scores โ€” and nothing else.

  3. 03

    Everyone buzzes in

Guests scan the code on the TV, pick a team, and their phone becomes a buzzer. No app, no account, no download.

  4. 04

    You run the room

From your phone: open a clue, see who buzzed first, award or dock the points, reveal the answer, move on.

WHAT GOES ON A TILE

Not every square has to be a question. That's what stops it feeling like a pub quiz.

QUESTIONS

Classic clues, written by you or generated for you, worth more the further down the board you go.

ACTION SQUARES

A physical dare hidden in the board. Nobody knows which tile it is until someone picks it.

MUSIC ROUNDS

Drop-the-needle clues. The clip plays on the TV with the picture hidden โ€” name the track.

VIDEO CLUES

The clip plays on screen. Name the film, the scene, the goal, the advert.

PHONE BUZZERS

Everyone buzzes from their own phone. The server decides who was first, not the loudest shout.

ANSWER CLOCK

A countdown starts by itself the moment someone buzzes. Set the length, or switch it off.

THREE SCREENS, ONE GAME

THE TV

The room's screen

The board, the clue, the countdown and the scoreboard with every player's name on their team. It follows whatever you do, live โ€” and it never shows the answer until you say so.

YOUR PHONE

The host's controls

Open a tile, watch the buzzes land, award or dock the points, reveal, next. A lobby before kick-off tells you the TV is up and who has arrived.

THEIR PHONES

The buzzers

A room code, a team, and one big button that only wakes up when a question is actually open. First press wins, timed by the server.

BEFORE YOU START

Do my guests need to install anything?

No. They open a web page, type the room code from the TV โ€” or scan the code โ€” pick a team, and that's it. It works on any phone with a browser, and there's no account to create.

What do I need to host?

A screen everyone can see and a phone in your hand. The TV can be a smart TV browser, a laptop plugged into a television, or a projector. You run the game from your phone, so you're not stuck standing at the screen.

Is it really free?

Yes. Building quizzes and hosting them is free, and there's no card to enter.

What's an action square?

A tile that isn't a question. Instead of a clue, it's a physical dare โ€” hover a stroopwafel into your mouth, whistle after a dry cracker, act out a film. It's hidden in the board, so picking a 400 could just as easily start a challenge as a question.

Can I use my own questions?

That's the point. Every category, clue, answer and point value is yours to write in a visual editor that mirrors the board. You can also drag clues between tiles to change what they're worth.

How do the music and video rounds work?

Paste a YouTube link on any clue and choose whether it plays as audio only โ€” picture hidden, for guess-the-song โ€” or as a video everyone watches. The sound comes out of the TV, not your phone.

How many people can play?

Two teams, and everyone in the room joins one of them from their own phone. The TV lists who's on each side so nobody's forgotten.

Can I play without phones?

Yes. Skip the buzzers, use shouts or hands, and award points yourself. The whole game works with just the board and the host controls.
